COMPLIANCE WITH BUILDING REGULATIONS PART L1 (England & Wales) or 6 (Scotland) for UK architecture and housing development:

I optimise compliance with Building Regulations through Interactive calculation of U values, 2006 DER,TER and SAP rating.
The SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) is part of the Building Regulations Part L1 (England and Wales) or Part 6 (Scotland). The SAP rating has to be calculated for every dwelling submitted for building regulations approval. Building Regulations require that the calculation is done by a competent person. I have been preparing SAP calculations since they first appeared in 1995, and I have in-depth knowledge of the background to the assessment procedure. I am a professional consultant working directly in accordance with Building Regulations. I do not just enter numbers into 3rd party software.

The KCE Part L1/6 calculations include:

 

1.. SAP certificate and SAP worksheet as required by Building Control.

2.. A Summary of the main criteria used in the calculation

3.. Calculations showing how the dwelling can comply with building regulations under one of the methods available.

Before completing the calculation I will telephone to discuss any adjustment to the design that might be needed to comply with regulations

4.. Calculation of U values and advice on alternative constructions where appropriate

 

5.. Summary of compliance with the U-values required for Alterations and Changes of Use, where applicable

 

6.. For apartment blocks and groups of dwellings I can provide a schedule of dwelling L1 compliance parameters - this is integrated with the calculation so I can advise on the effect on all the dwellings of any specification change

 

7.. An assessment of boiler and water heater sizes

I am a Chartered Engineer and have many years' experience working with architects, developers and in multi-discipline practices.
I am a low-energy building adviser and am pleased for my Building Regulations L & SAP service to be used as a design forum for assessment and discussion of design alternatives.  As well as multiple new housing sites, I specialise in barn conversions and similar old buildings being converted to dwellings, and in high quality larger houses.
